Lhakpa escaped from Tibet by walking to India over the Himalayas in 1995. There she had the opportunity to train and work with a tailor, where she learned to sew women’s and children’s clothes.
In 2004, Lhakpa married Lobsang Sherpa an ex-political prisoner, also from Tibet. In 2009 they had the opportunity of coming to Australia as refugees.
“ I was first inspired to use my skills and start making toys by Madeleine from Do Re Mi, who asked me to make toys for her shop.
I now sew and for many shops and teach others in my community.”
